Before you advertise on <XXXX insert name of platform XXXX>, it’s important you are aware of the UK Advertising rules (called the CAP Code) and how they apply to your business. This will help you avoid having a complaint about your advert upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The remit of what is covered within the Code is very wide; for example it includes:

  • claims on your own company website
  • social media channels
  • working with influencers
  • as well as more traditional forms of advertising.

But don’t worry, the Code isn’t there to try and catch you out – by having rules that all companies must comply with, it creates an even playing field for businesses, and means consumers should feel more able to trust the ads they see and hear, making them even more impactful.

Plus, the Committee of Advertising Practice who write the rules have lots of advice and guidance available, you can even call them (for free) about your advert if you have a specific question you can’t find the answer to.
