Ofcom primarily ensures people in the UK get the best from their communications services and are protected from scams, while ensuring competition can thrive to help keep services competitively priced.

Ofcom acts as our legal ‘backstop’ for broadcast advertising. This means failure of an advertiser to stick to an ASA ruling, could result in them being referred to Ofcom, who have the power to take legal action.
